HPS Mission

To teach students to become lifelong learners.

Students

The best way to learn is through being involved.  Students help create interesting stories and bring them to life all in Spanish!

Students are expected to be actively involved in class, not just spectators and note takers.

Methods

Classes are taught using the Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) methods.  Instead of memorizing lists students learn basic sentence structures then recycle those words until they become second nature and new structures can be added.  These methods resemble how we learn our first language.

The main theme of TPRS is giving students comprehensible imput.  What is comprehensible input?  Input is anything a student hears, reads, sees in the target language.  Making the input comprehensible means that I break it into the smallest, easiest form so students can easily understand and use it.

Characteristics of a good learner:
Has a positive attitude.

Learns from failures.  Knows that failure is just knowledge waiting to happen.
